Hi all,

having some problems with an old system I'm trying to put together with parts from the loft.

Found an old mobo, cpu, ram and psu in the loft :D

Think its a p4.

Anyway I can get it to boot, but only for about 10 seconds. The first part of the post is really fuzzy (graphics wise), but as soon as I get into the bios its fine again, but shuts down if I try to view any system stats.

If I don't go into the bios it shuts down at 'checking dmi pool' or something.

I've tried different RAM in different configurations and all sorts. Starting to pull my hair out now!

Any ideas guys?

Tried that too, still shuts down.

I remember that this happened to two boards I had. Bought a new case for an old system and moved everything across, but this started to happen. Bought a new system, moved it all to the new case and it did the exact same thing.

Could it be that the case 'broke' both motherboards?

some case's have the bits you screw motherboard into in wrong place for your board if you get what i mean , if that metals touching the board underneith in the case in wrong place it will short circuit

if you take your board out and in the case you will see some silver or gold thing that you screw motherboard into check they all match the holes on the motherboard , and remember not to screw down to tight

Done and done, still doing it. I vote CPU, mainly because it's the only component I haven't and cannot change.
