Ok a friend who is a complete technophobe has possibly a 7+year old AMD based PC running Vista, (and that is about as much as he knows about it).

Recently he has been getting random shutdowns with no reboot.

It is happening during boot up on occasion and after booting and just after getting into windows so completely random.

When I advised a safe mode start up it would only get about half way through start up and shutdown.

The shutdowns were just like someone had pulled the plug which led me to believe that it was a possible PSU problem, (as my wife PC had a similar problem that a new PSU fixed), He had a spare PSU laying around, (brand new in box but years old) that I fitted for him and it appeared to fix the problem.

Fast forward 2 weeks and he is again getting the same kind of random shutdowns, is it possible that something else is killing the PSU's or as he just been unlucky in that the new one was dodgy, it was a make I had never heard of.

I know I have a spare decent PSU here somewhere but can't find it to try.

So in the mean time does anyone have any other suggestions please.
