ok my sons pc has randomly shutting down and cant get to bottom of it,
he has a ryzen 2600
strix f gaming x370
16gb ddr4
ssd for boot drive(scanned and healthy
r9 390 8gb

its randomly shuting down and showing red memory light, has to wait a bit and he can restart, so presumed memory, not a specific time or task, just random, even sitting on desktop will shut down now and again. windows has been reset but no avail, so went down other week with my ram, which is on the certified amd list, but his system went screwy and wouldnt boot at all just red memory light. so ordered him a new gpu which i know isnt the issue but worth a try. only thing left is cpu and mobo afaik

anyone ideas

I have heard of idle issues with Zen 2 CPUs, but I didn't think they applied to Zen+. I guess no harm in trying the same thing by disabling the lower power states?

How old it the PSU? If it is an old one, try enabling power supply idle control if present in the bios.

Sorry to read about your problem, memory has been the biggest issue on my Ryzen system. Have you tried disabling any memory overclockers eg XMP.

yeah no overclocking tried running at tried every which way but loose so to say. but same issue, its a strange one, im pretty good at tracking down faults but this has be bamboozled lol

Sometimes there is no logic to the problems, I had some Ryzen systems which hated some crucial 2 x 8GB sticks but were solid on crucial 2 x 16GB sticks. They also seem to love Corsair 4 x 8 sticks. I guess you have run a mem test. Another option is to go into the bios and manually set the ram to slightly loser settings (if it gives the option which I suspect it will)

Try running with a single stick of ram.

Ensure the stick or sticks of Ram is installed into the correct slots for dual channel.
strangely it runs ok for a while with one stick of ram,. but will shutdown eventually, im thinking of upgrading his motherboard to newer b450/550 boards are cheap enough these days
