Random stutter in Dirt 2 with new setup

I just got my 5970 and a SSD. I have put all graphic settings to maximum and am getting an average fps of 35.6 and minimum of 30.2 in the benchmark. However, when I am racing every now and again I get random stutter of both the sound and fps. Anyone know what is wrong?

Seems the first time I set the graphics options they didnt apply. I put everything on maximum and now there is no stutter and it runs smoother. Dont you just love dual GPU cards
