Random system crashes

I overclocked my i7 950 yesterday to 4ghz, using 1.3vcore and 1.315 vtt, and everything seems stable in prime 95 (running for 1.5 hours) even if the temps do get a little hot (80C)
but today ive been getting random crashes, not a BSOD, but the screen goes black and random bright colours that look torn flash up at the top of the screen, and it reboots.. anyone know what might be causing this?

Ive increased the vcore and vtt up by one notch on each, and again, so far it seems stable running on prime, no idea why the crashes are happening, they've been when just web browsing, and when not stressing the system at all

run prime with your system on stock settings, see if it crashes, ^^ 6 hours at least ideally, if it's fine, chances are your settings need tweaking :)

with the new voltages and my current cpu cooler, after an hour and a half run of prime im at 84C max temps, can i really run it for 6 hours safely at these temps?

There you go... problems already.

I seriously can't remember the last time I had a lockup or reboot but seemed to have them when I was an overclocking noob many years ago.

Once you get the overclock rock solid you'll never have that fear in the back of your mind that maybe the PC will crash on me. I suggest you start with this ....

If it's still too hot - sort out the cooling in you PC before attempting to OC

things have annoyed me so much over the past couple of days, that im litterally have a new sandybridge build in the ocuk basket ready to buy heh.

And cooling in my system shouldnt be a problem at all, atleast for 4ghz

this is still happening, ran prime 95 for 5 hours today without a crash, then randomly crashed with a black screen and random strip of colours at the top and bottom whilst just browsing youtube?
whats going on..

It's been stable at stock since October so it's just the overclock that's the issue I think, though it's stable through prime on 5 hour run of small ftt's
