Ok so I've had this annoying problem for a while now and need to try and get to the bottom of it...

Every so often at random times, my system freezes entirely and I'm forced to hard reset, however when I hard reset my PC doesnt boot because the HDD Boot priority gets messed up.

When I enter the bios all I see are my 2 SATA drives, my Corsair LS is missing until I cut the power completely, hold the power button down for a few seconds, then reboot.

Then I have to manually set my SSD as primary boot boot in the bios and everything is ok again for a few days/weeks until the next time it happens.

My specs are i7 4770k OC to 4.6 (crash happens with or without OC)

MAXIMUS IV EXTREME

16gb Corsair dominator ram @ 1866mhz (crash happens even when down clocked)

r9 280x

EVGA 750W PSU

I've tried resetting everything to optimal defaults and the problem still persists.

I have no idea if its hardware/software, Ram/cpu or SSD causing the problem and not sure where to start troubleshooting without buying replacement components I may or may not need.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Your system is crashing because the SSD is failing (This then causes the BIOS to re-enumerate it's drives and hence the boot order).

Either the SSD is on it's way out or it has a firmware bug which can be fixed by flashing the firmware. You will need to take a backup of anything on the drive when it is behaving as the firmware update will wipe the drive.

Thanks for the replies, it was a brand new drive so it's either dodgy or it's something else.

I already updated the firmware and ran the Corsair drive mechanic thing and it found no problems.

Tried every combination of SATA port too

Might buy a cheap SSD and see if it fixes the problem, cheers.
