Hi guys I have (I think :p ) a half decent spec of a PC.

Intel C2D 6400

2gb Ram

why sometimes does Vista just seem to do something with the HD even though I am not actually using anything???

Do I need to upgrade? :D

Vista does a lot of rearranging and defragging off its own back without asking you. Go to the defrag task manager and disable auto-defragging. Vista will also do a lot of file indexing initially.

One of my Pet hates.

I hate Windows just indexing and defragging of its own accord.

Disable windows search Service

Go to run, type in services.msc and locate windows search Double click and disable it. /Make sure you stop it first.

It's probably also SuperFetch doing its thing - loading most-used programs and files into memory so they open quicker.

Only happens @ start.

Go to the defrag task manager and disable auto-defragging.

Doesn't work for me, still defragging on it's own, annoys me too.

That stops after like 1 complete index, can't see how it can bother you it will never do it again after one time.
