While this should probably be in the games section, i've posted it here due to recent news I just saw on BBC website about human remains in a suitcase. - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53346855

Only found out about this app yesterday as I was in the youtube spiral last night, going random video to video and saw something about this app called Randonautica, basically it sends you to random spots near your current locations depending on options set. You walk/drive there and see what you can find. Sometimes it's just landmarks, other times folks are finding items.

There is a channel I follow about some urban explorers and they had used it and found some items at places it sent them, then were accosted when parked in their vehicle in the middle of nowhere. I've no doubt in my mind it was staged but it got my curiosity in the app.

Installed it from luxury of my settee, it wanted to send me just 300 metres down the road. Then something popped into my mind about said spot, it was somewhere that someone had been shotgunned in their car 6 years ago.

Now, that spot combined with the story above makes me think it's just some morbid folks having a little fun, I do wonder if there is something more illicit in the background though, watched way too much horror. :D

Anyway, i've got tomorrow off work, going to load up the app, jump in the car and see where it takes me and what I do/don't find. If anything, it'll get me out of the house for a few hours.

Anyone else had any personal experience with this and found anything of interest?

------------------
tl;dr - i might die tomorrow following directions on an app, might find Epsteins stash of tapes, might end up narnia, most likely will probably return home bored after an hour.

UPDATE: I didn't die, couldn't get anywhere of note - not as 'lucky' as these folk - https://www.reddit.com/r/randonauts/

So these kids found the bag using this app, complained about the smell, called 911, continued filming and still uploaded it to tiktok? The next day?

I suspect there’s more to this story tbh.

I'm wondering if I watch the same explorers, a few of them are doing videos on it.

It seems a bit sketchy. But I'm not sure they are in on it. It's not like they are the only ones finding stuff.

There was a live stream that one of them did that was asking the question "Are we getting paid by Randonautica?". I didn't have time to listen to it and youtube didn't archive it.

I've still got an open mind about it. The guy who made the app says he didnt think this would happen.

One of the main ones I saw are a small group called exploring with fighters. Started following them a year or two back when they were trying to get close to uks 'area 51' near some non descript little village and were getting cut off by police. Just random easy watching with the occasional so called ghost hunt.

Their take on the app is there is a dedicated team that plant stuff while the app 'decides' where to send them. However that's a big group for a free app that a few million are apparently using.

Yup, thats the ones I watch.

I think they are better than most of the ghost programmes on tv, and the explores are good too.

It is very strange how its never come out whos putting the stuff there. There must be a lot of them as people are using it around the world.

It reminds me about 10 years ago when the UK Riots happened. People were getting pointed to random locations to cause trouble, yet apart from a couple of idiots that jumped on the bandwagon, nobody found out who was posting the places. Then suddenly it all disappeared.

Forgot to update this, did try it for about 30 minutes but it gave me 3 pins on private property and one that as mentioned in the OP that was a previous murder spot that I go past daily anyway.

Their reddit is golden with people seemingly always finding what they think about before setting a pin, it's almost as though it's all setup for the views :D - https://www.reddit.com/r/randonauts/

People really scraping the barrel for some excitement in their lives, eh :p

Well it was either this or waste time arguing with folks on Ocuk. ;)
