Howdy gents and ladies

What experience do we have with Range style cookers.

Our new house has a 90cm cooker space which is amazing for us as we have only ever had a single small oven in a very confined space.

We dont have a budget as such cheaper the better but also if there's more value in a unit £1k - 1.5k then can go that far.

for example something like this

Reviews are generally positive but they all seem to have niggles.

Smeg seem a good brand

maybe this?

any help appreciated I have never bought a cooker before,

oh and I have both gas and leccy in the space.

Cheers
Ross

Probably more down to personal style and if you want 1 grill or two, 5 hobs or 6 etc, twin fan ovens etc.

We have a 60cm hotpoint and the writing for "left hob", "right hob" etc has come off (albeit after 4 years or so). So from that point of view I'd buy one where the writing for the dials etc looks like it'll last longer than 5 minutes.

The two you linked were 'modern' looking. I'd personally go for a 'traditional' one like:

Rangemaster. You can get a smaller 90cm and a 120.

The 90 can still get a full oven, grill and a second vertical oven.

We'll be getting one once we finally get the kitchen done.

Smeg or Rangemaster if you can stump up that much.

I agree :)

We ended up with a Smeg 90, but I really didn't see the point in the single side oven that would rarely get used.

Ended up with a single cavity :D All my baking trays now fit and theres even a rotisserie inside it!

Makes fantastic chicken but a bit messy haha :p

Model number escapes me at the mo but is very similar to:

Have a look on: http://smeg-outlet-store.co.uk/

Got ours there B=grade, cosmetic damage to the sides, but it was being slid in between cupbaords anyway.

EDIT:
Im pretty sure this is ours, just in blakc:

I had a 90cm rangemaster for about 10 years and loved it. It was negotiated into the deal when I sold my house. I am going to replace it with another rangemaster bit the bigger one. Very happy with it in terms of quality, consistency of temp etc

Commented about my Rangemaster 110 on a previous thread - we've had ours over 10 years and only had a grill heating element go and recently the fan oven fan had to be replaced (we use it every day).

To be honest if you can wait to save more for a Range I would do so, absolutely worth the money.

We were cooking with a ceramic top stove for nearly a year while we saved up after just buying the house (owners took cooker with them so left a 110cm gap!)

Another thumbs up for Rangemaster. We've got a Classic 90, gas hobs (bottled propane, as we're off the grid for gas), electric ovens/grill.

We specced a glass top, as the kitchen isn't huge so it gives extra worktop, navy blue colour, and probably some other stuff I forget.

Had it for 2.5 years, no problems. Get a lot of letters from Rangemaster trying to sell extended cover, though.

They last ages so probably why!

I'm amazed as to their second hand value too, mine cost me £1,200 ~10 years ago and I've seen similar aged ones going for £500-£700.

I must say I've been quite tempted by their stainless induction range.

We have a Rangemaster 110cm and i really like it, a couple of elements have failed but they do in all cookers, and are very cheap to source from eBay anyway.

I've had my Rangemaster 110 (full electric) for over 10 years and we've only had to replace one grill element and replace the fan oven fan. I wouldn't think twice about buying another if I had to.

Quality but not cheap - definitely worth the outlay.
