Hello,

Currently in a situation (only for 4 months) were the internet is communal but I can't get a signal in my room. The wifi point isn't too far away to the point that if I take my laptop a few metres out of the building I will pick up a signal.

Has anyone used a range extender before, and could reccomend one? It could easily be taped to the building outside.

Thanks :)

The tp-link one works ok but I don't think it'd work too well outside. You could I suppose obtain an antenna with lead so that the antenna can be stuck to the wall and the extender itself can be inside.

It's a bit Of a bind setting them up (or at least the tp-link one was) the first time but once you know what to do its simple enough.

IF you have access to the router it might be a good idea to purchase a wifi home plug kit? This will enable you to extend the range.

In a different building :(

I have a seen an ALFA (2000mW 2W 802.11g/n High Gain USB Wireless G / N Long-Rang WiFi Network Adapter ) which hopefully if stuck out of the window should do the job. The laptop works if a couple of metres out the window and well for £20 I can't really go wrong.

Thanks guys :)
