Does anyone have any experience of the real world mpg these get? I see reviews and comments from non-owners who say "OMG 12mpg!!!" etc etc but what do they get on the motorway at 70mph on the cruise?

An 04, 05 ish 4.4 Vogue is in my budget for a family wagon but I will need to use it for business. If I can break 22mpg average on a business trip, I'm even. ie. the fuel money I'm paid equals the fuel cost.

So, is 22mpg on say a trip of 90% motorway achievable?

In the market for a 4.4 Vogue myself. From what I can tell people seem to average around 15-18mpg with mixed use, rising to low to mid 20's when left on a run on cruise control.

I think you should manage the 22mpg on a typical motorway style trip as long as you keep your speed down on the cruise, I guess it depends how long that trip is.

I had a Land Rover Disco V8 for a couple of months when they first came out as a loan company vehicle and I still recall driving to Liverpool, around 60 miles there and back, and needing to fill it up twice. It was doing single figure MPG and it gave me nightmares. I nearly checked into the Priory because of it and still to this day when I see one I feel the need to fall to my knees and scream Nooooooooooo

Sorry, didn't answer your question......but you started it!

A Range Rover 4.4 V8 definitely does not need filling up twice for a 120 mile trip, nor do they average single figure economy figures unless all it ever does is move around a yard its whole life or something.

Not sure what was up with that Disco. :p

Well it was a 3.5 for a start, it was one of the very first ones as I said, well before they had stuff like clever compoooota's

I owned a 4.4l V8 petrol for 4 years and got a consistent 18mpg out of it, which was pretty much all urban driving and short journeys.

I had an X5 4.4 with the same engine and gearbox for 2 weeks, did 50-60 miles to £20

I would only buy one if i did short journeys

Mate of mine had a 4.4 v8 lpg'd he got about 22 from that on a run sat at 80ish. So you should get that on proper fuel without too much trouble, think it was around 17-18 for the normal school run....

I averaged 15 mpg from my Alfa V6 today. A mixture of stuck in rush hour traffic and a good chase of an Audi A5 quattro in TDi that went like stink!! Fastest diesel I have ever seen!

People are talking about LPG but tbh, it looks like a bit of a minefield with shoddy conversions done.

Maybe if I can find one that's been done properly by a reputable firm......

If people are getting high teens I reckon I could get 20+ on a long run. I always manage more than the book figures with my cars when on the motorway because I drive smoothly and within the speed limits. I managed 35mpg from my Lexus GS430, and 33mpg from my BMW 750i. Those figures are well above what people would think for those cars.

My boss had a 2003 V8 Vogue and was getting ~20mpg from East Lancs to London. He's now swapped it for a V8 diesel version.

To put things in perspective, his Vanquish S gets better mpg on the same run.

Family friend has an 04 plate Range 4.4 which he gets high 20's from on frequent motorway cruises - which I consider pretty damn good for the size & weight of the thing - but, he describes it as "truly horrific" in & around town, make of that what you will....

What kind of driving? And what kind of roads?

No offence, but that post is rather meaningless.

Anyway, if you'd only buy one if you did short journeys, what on earth possessed you to get an e60 M5 - that thing makes a Range 4.4 seem positively frugal!! ;)
