A dangerous new strain of malicious software that holds the victim's computers files for ransom has been unleashed, and Kaspersky Lab is warning that security researchers have yet to crack the encryption key.

I've never had a virus before but the thought of having your data held ransom in today's world could be compared with a family member or friend being held ransom as well given that the majority of people today store /everything/ on their desktop and portable computers.

It's not safe walking the streets at night and it's not safe to browse the web without some knowledge of internet security either!
