I've been Beta testing Office 2007 for a few months and I've been quite happpy with. It really is a nifty office suite. So a couple of week back I saw the Technical Refresh pack (basically an update for the Beta), and I thought wow let's install this and make it even better...

NOT. After installing a lot of my important Word documents refused to open, saying that the Admin (i.e. me) had blocked access to them. There is a KB article on it; apparently it doesn't open documents created in the previous Beta.

WTF?! What the hell is that all about?! "Oh here's an update for the Beta... but err, all the documents you created previously won't open anymore. Sorry". Worst of all there is no fix or workaround for the problem!!

So I basically thought **** that, and installed OpenOffice. That's the last time I ever do MS a favour by Beta testing. :o

It's worked fine for me - at most, some of the images were a bit wonky (but at the end of the day, you shouldn't be using beta software in a production environment).
Biggest issue was the recent screwup with the activation servers.

Indeed OK for me too though admit Outlook has been the main app I have used but the few Word docs I have created still opne after installing the TR.

Only problem I had was Nortons scanner plugin.

Did a reformat this morning and decided to give Office 2007 another whirl... had the same problem AGAIN  However I didn't back down and after a few hours of Googling :p came across this posted by a really helpful dude called shaneman on the MS forums:

I had the same problem and here is how to fix it.

First you need to open Microsoft Word

Then go to the top left corner and choose "Customize quick access toolbar" (little down arrow)

Then choose "More Commands"

When that opens click "Trust Center" and then click "Trust Center Settings"

Click "trusted locations" on the top left and then click "Add new location"

You can "Browse" to add any folders on your computer. (Make sure you choose to add sub folders by checking the box below if this applies.)

Then click "OK" all the way out.

You are done..... You can open the document.

Works a treat!!

:D:D

I'm using the Beta 2 at home and have the Trial edition on a VPC.
Have they changed the colour scheme or is it just not showing up properly because it's in VPC?
If they've changed it, I much preferred the Beta.

It's still a rather nauseating shade of light blue (not as disgusting as Office 2003 though). Why couldn't they just leave it grey :p

And yeah the graphs in Excel are "iffy" to say the least!

I'm hoping they have major issues ironed out in the full release as I'd love to buy a copy for real :)
