Raptor Lake Leaks + Intel 4 developments

Excited to see Raptor Lake performance, hopefully launching by Q2!
Everything i have read states Q4 with minor IPC increase and a couple months after Zen 4 launches. If the latest leakes of 25%-40% increase in performance for Zen 4 ends up being correct then Raptor Lake will be behind by approx. 20%

Meteor lake productions starts in 2022 so if that's the case then release would likely be end of Q1 2023 or early Q2 so given that then raptorlake release would likely be summer 2022.
 
Meteor lake production will have started months ago, though looking from the outside it’s not going well at all. Pat wants TSMC to do some lifting with its 3nm node. If Intel can muscle in on TSMC’s 3nm it will also stifle the competition and give the Intel line of ARC GPU’s a huge advantage by default.

If Intel can get TSMC 3nm then it will be extremely costly for them, and then prices will suffer, or they will sell everything with loss and focusing only on market share.

It will be interesting to see. Intel will be in an extremely strong position if they can control TSMC until the 20 and 18A fabs are online.
 
I think Nvidia will keep going with new models of Ampere, until AMD releases their next series. They are making so much money already, so to they don't need to change their lineup much. Ampere Next is scheduled for presumably the 2nd half of 2022, presumably Q4.

Nvidia would make much more money with a new architecture on a smaller process, with much smaller dies. At least that's what I'm hoping for, no more 350W monsters, back to Maxwell/Pascal efficiency days.
 
I doubt it would work out cheaper (5nm semiconductor foundries are expensive to build and run), the main thing AMD and Nvidia (and Intel too) need to focus on in 2022 is volume. The RTX 3080 TI and 3090 are very fast graphics cards that handle 4K resolution very well (so does the RTX 3080), to some extend I think the display technology and prices need to improve, consumers would need to have 6/8K monitors or TVs at affordable prices, to benefit from additional performance improvements.

28" 8K monitors would be a milestone in terms of quality, this is the point where aliasing (basically graphical errors caused by how polygons are rendered) would (in theory) be invisible to the human eye.

As far as I know, whether human vision could see any further detail beyond this point with this type of display, is a question that remains unanswered.

It's true that you need higher resolution for VR displays though, due to the distance between the user and the device's display.

This is mostly true, but I think there's a cache bottleneck on today's CPUs too. Will be interesting to see what difference Zen3D makes. I wonder if there will be Golden Cove CPUs with more cache, or if cache improvements will be left to Meteor Lake. Presumably, this would be possible with HEDT Golden Cove CPUs.

Raptor Lake also has an improved cache - will be interesting to see how it impacts performance.

I was about to say the same :cry:

Reckon it means anything when Intel just say Raptor Lake is 'booting windows' vs AMD showing Zen4 running Halo? (and even say at 5GHz all-core)

Looking forward to seeing how the 24 core Raptor Lake performs! Also great that it's going to be a drop in upgrade for existing Z690 owners :)

Have you decided upon your upgrade plan yet? There may be good offers on 12th gen if you don't want to go for 13th gen in a few months.
