I just ran HD Tach tests on my WD Raptor 74gig and My Maxtor 250gig and they are both more or less the same speed??

I thought the raptor was supposed to be much quicker than the normal sata drives?

Is it just the access time?

that and it has an average read advantage of about 15MB/s

Use the compare another drive as see the results for the raptors on there yours might be knackered

This is mine (red) versus a reference one (blue)...

It appears mine is faster than the reference one, so I can be happy. :)

The difference in burst speed is down to the interface used. With the test on the reference drive being two years old, it can be assumed it was using a slower interface.

Completely ignore burst - I mean look at mine on a RAID0+1 of 4x Hitachi 80GB drives:

You only need to look at the Average (sustained) read and access times (and possibly CPU utilisation).

I see a big difference in speed in them two tests..
Random access 7.9ms vs 14.6ms
three quarters the way throught on the drives 65MB vs 45MB read speed.
Average read speed 64.9MB vs 49.6MB

what the hell are you complaining about? i see a massive difference between the raptor and the maxtor your comparing. look at the seek time and the start and end transfer rate on the raptor is far better.

i think your just having a laugh because you would have to be totally retarded to not tell the raptor is the faster drive.
