Ok,

I'm being a tight arse and I really don't want to buy another router, therefore I was thinking about using a Raspberry Pi running wheezy raspbian image or similar and using it as a computer in a DMZ to use to create a VPN for me to connect to when I'm out of my home.

Anyone tried anything like this?

regards,

I don't know about the Raspberry Pi bit, but you shouldn't need to DMZ anything for a VPN. Just open the correct ports (will vary depending on the VPN type) and forward them to the machine configured as the VPN endpoint.
