I've currently got a 256mb rev B with a Class 10 16GB card and an Edimax wifi N micro dongle, running Rasbian with XBMC compiled on top.
I had grand aspirations for the thing to be the upstairs media machine, but I'm finding that it's just on the cusp of functional. Spending far too much time waiting for it to do stuff and it's sluggish when it does respond.
Obviously well aware I'm expecting a lot from an ARM CPU that is more at home to powering an iPhone 3G!
So, I'm debating upgrading the Pi to something like an Acer Revo to keep it quiet but give me some more grunt. Offloading the video to a CUDA based GPU sounds very appealing and having a bit more grunt for old console emulation would be nice too.
Has anyone come up against similar challenges on the Pi? Is it going to be a case of waiting for code improvements, or is it as I suspect that I'm asking a lot from a £25 box?
Or, any better alternatives? I'm looking at the Revo as it's cheap and silent, but other options might be a Zotac ION board for example.
Also, those running Revos - what OS takes your fancy? I'm probably going to stick with a Linux derivative provided there's decent driver support for the IONs.
Cheers
