First of all - not sure if this is the correct section to post this in - if not, please accept my apologies...

Anyway - my daughter has announced today that she would like (in addition to everything else!) a Raspberry Pi for Christmas. In terms of s 'starter kit', what should I be buying her? There's lots of packs on various websites but I don't really know what is 'essential' and what is simply 'nice to have'. Please could someone knowledgable give me a bit of a steer?

Cheers! and thanks in advance.

Good items might be:

wifi dongle
keyboard/mouse
usb hub
hdmi cable to plug into TV/monitor
Decent power supply (not all phone chargers will be good enough)

If she wants to get into electronics rather than 'just' linux/programming then things like LEDs, resisters, breadboard, ribbon cable/GPIO breakout etc

I can't mention any names as OCUK sell the pi but there are a lot of specialist shops with good electronics starter packs.

Edit - You also need a microSD card!!!

You need;

Raspberry Pi 2
Case (Take a look at PiBow)
Power Supply
MicroSD, get a decent Class 10 one.
HDMI cable

Wireless adapter may be useful but not necessary.
