Hi Everyone,

I plan to get my Pi soon to stream my media to my TV.

Out of Raspbmc, OpenELEC and XBian which is recommended? I also hear that some of the UI lag issues are resolved by booting one of the above from a USB drive rather than the SD card. Thoughts?

Thanks,

David

Obviously they are not quite as snappy as running xbmc off a pc but as long as you use a decent sd card I don't think it matters about USB, plus you still need and sd card to boot from USB. I'm using raspbmc too and I'm impressed with it, plus I thing it's come quite a long way from the reviews I read saying it was slow to boot etc.

Yeah since they changed to the automatic update system, raspbmc seems a lot snappier. It seems the last few releases have solved a lot of it's problems. Plus the CEC support is a big bonus too.

Im also in the same boat, ordered a 512mb a few days ago. Think ill try rasbmc first! Hopefully the extra ram will help a fair bit.

I got my Pi a few days ago and have been playing around with Raspbmc.
I've been really impressed with it , not had a file from 700 meg xvid to 20gig plus 1080p mkv drop a single frame.
The only issue I have seen is when the Pi has to do the decoding of DTS soundtracks itself , the poor CPU just can't do it.
Plugged into my receiver its faultless and would absolutely consider using Pis in other rooms of the house.

P.s controlling it using my ipad is pretty cool too :-)

Hmm i never considered this. My Pi will be connected just to a tv for the time being so i presume the pi will have to downmix DTS/etc to stereo? Will the performance suffer as a result?

Its seems to try and downmix to stereo but its just not capable of doing so.
I think they are working on external soundcard support which could help
