Hey guys.

My totally awesome boss is giving me a brand new R.A.T 9 mouse.

I have heard many people having issues with the Z axis however. I use a claw type grip style and my mouse area is quite small, will i have issues that many people are complaining about with the X-Axis? (Which i think are mostly aimed at the R.A.T 7.

Any advice to get the most out of the R.A.T?

I believe it's down to the surface you use, the R.A.T's sensor can be quite picky. After that I don't really know, so I'd suggest just trying as many different surfaces/mouse mats as possible.

I have an R.A.T.7...

Honestly I heard a lot about it being picky, but got it on the cheap, so thought sod it... I've had no issue on it at all for the sensor...

Works on laminated wood, carpet, paper, my steelseries mouse mat :D :p

Never tried it on glass which is where people say it has issues, but yeah, no issues what so ever myself

Ok so i now have it!

I am having huge issues with Z-Axis. In games its very hard to keep straight as i do lift the mouse a fair amount, have you had any problems with this? Did a change in mouse mat help? (What do you use currently?) I have choices between a wood table, a matte black felt mouse mat and a white sheet of paper (White does not appear to help with the problem, though it is a sheet of paper!)

Having owned three philips twin-eye sensor mice, sadly there is no cure for the z-axis problem. I have a dozen different mouse mats and nothing works. As a high sensitivity fingertip grip gamer, I lift the mouse a lot. Aiming is pretty accurate during slow moving moments, but you can forget anything fast paced such as flick railing.

IMO this issue is an acceptable reason for a refund, as it renders the mouse unfit for purpose. Don't forget you have a 7 days no questions asked refund option if purchased online.

Unfortunately as it was a gift and purchased more then 7 days ago I dont think i have any out on this!

Is there anything that can make things even a little better? What mouse pad would people recommend? (materials, colour etc)

There is no cure sadly. All mousepads will have the same z-axis issue as it's built-in to the sensor. You may be able to adjust given time. Many people game just fine with philips twin-eye mice, but I suspect most of those are low sensitivity users.

Surely Low Sensitivity users would have more problems because they would have to lift the mouse more?

For example i usually have settings at 2400DPI and default sensitivity in BFBC2 settings.

You mentioned that you owned a number of mice with the phillips sensor, what was the best mouse surface/mat to use with them in your opinion? (Regardless if it fixes the Lifting issue or not) Seeming as i am now stuck with the mouse, i best get used to playing with it!

High sens users lift the mouse a lot more than they realise, all while keeping it within a small section on the mousepad. As a result, the z-axis issue is far more exagerated. Low sensitivity users tend to use a huge mousepad and their "lifts per second" as it were are much lower.

I've used this mouse since it's release a few months back. I've got to be honest I did notice this issue when I first got the mouse, but I think somehow I've naturally adapted to it as I've not noticed this problem in weeks. I use the highest DPI setting. One thing I did notice that made a difference and that was the amount of weights used with the mouse, with less weights the problem was more prominent. But this is understandable....
