thanks for any imput :D

will u be overclocking?

dunno how much that will cost in total but why not go conroe? as thats a much better option especially if u will be overclocking..

As far as your questions are concerned

yes its all compatible, i cant see any bottle necking issues and it will **** on yer time computer...

No overclocking for me.
I hear a lot of raving about Conroe, whats the deal, is it so much better than athlon x2 that I should change my mobo?
And HAHAA I'm soo glad to see that it will own my current rig :D made my day! Do you think I can run HL2 in 1280x1024 now? with nice settings?

I'd be very surprised if it didn't work a whole lot better than your current PC and yes HL2 should easily run maxed out. I haven't totted up the price properly for your suggestion but I think this comes out around the same price and will be faster although the motherboard won't be much good for overclocking.

at that res possibly pushing it with this card cuz it only has 256mb and at that res or higher u need a card with 512mb especially if u wanna play it on max settings :)

Conroe are the best cpus around today cuz of their overclocking potential..However that comes at a price...lol.....for example your x2 3800 has a 512kb L2 cache where as the minimum a conroe has is 2mb which is 4 times the equivalant...

Depends on what u do with your pc and from what angle you look at things

if you overclock then definately go conroe and also if u want to have the latest tech...

However if you dont care about overclocking and not having the latest tech then X2 or even a single core 3700 san diego will be good for u....

Keep in mind it will all be changing earlier next year with the release of windows vista, DX 10 gpus and quadcore cpus lol...

So its what u want really and more importantly what you do with your pc...

You dont really need a AM2 socket cpu either mate theres such a small difference in performance from AMD x2 and AM2 x2 so small u wudnt even notice the diff...

That psu u have chosen is not really required for the bits u have chosen either

Well, I'm not versed in the art of OCing, so I guess I'll just stick with x2 for now.
And yes, should be fun when Dx 10 hits us.
And I only thought I'd choose that PSU, is because it had a SLI logo next to it :P And All the stuff I'm going to order are geared towards SLI, I think.
I'm no expert, just want a fairly easy install, and just to be able to play some games with some eye candy anf reaosnable frames!

1280x1024? That is not all that high really. I would only consider needing a 512mb card for 1680x1050+

It doesnt cost much more really, same price with the cheaper motherboard and they Allendales (6300/6400) have 2mb whereas the x3800 has 1mb total cache.

It is faster anyway, before overclocking.

Both the seasonic and FSP listed are very good PSUs and would be good enough for future upgrades

Thanks Guy, Raikiri.
Well my total for listed items, came to £485
And really, is Conroe that much faster it justifies the extra dough? bearing in mind I'm not goin to overclock anything at all?
thanks, I'v just sort of always bought AMD, apart from a celeron a while ago.

Not that much before overclocking, if you do get the X3800+ save some money and buy a cheaper motherboard with an x1800xt.
