Corsiar 4gb 1333 TwinX xms3
Hiper Type M 580W Modular (reconditioned)
Antec 900 (reconditioned)
Force 3d 4870 freezer with dht cooler

All for £410

1/10
stay away from hiper PSU's - - - hiper PSU = BANG
as above 720 for little bit more and its got unlocked multiplier
and yeah 902 is much better than 900

I'll give 42.

The Hiper PSUs have a bad reputation after the dreaded Type R series. And like reflux said skimping on a PSU is a bad idea. Get a brand new one.

I have an Antec 900 and they are a nightmare to keep clean. Nice case, but it looks pants unless you keep it clean.

720 would've been another 20 quid, 902 another 50. Dust isn't really much of an issue for various reasons. I'm predominantly looking at the performance/price multiple for £400. I chose the PSU because it had good 12v railage, its 700w modular wasnt reviewed too bad?

why do you guys rate hiper so bad all the reviews seem to indacate that they are good. obisously there are bad models just like every other psu manufacturer, i think that hiper have really stepped up there game the over the last 3 years and the quality is exectional in fact i got one myself and it is a great relible psu.

Look at those links in my last post.

I wouldn't touch one with a 20 foot barge pole.

Also, the OP is wanting to get a reconditioned 580W Modular one, I don't know if you could pick a worse PSU.

Thats not what I heard (for that particular model), links here and here

Yeah, I know that particular PSU has a bad reputation, but I reviewed both their 630, 770 and 880w models and found them to be decent performers for the price. I ran the 880w personally for over a year with no problems.

They're not all bad, there were just a couple of models that had a particularly high failure rate.

I chose the PSU because it had good 12v railage,

But it does'nt. The 580w version can only put out a claimed 360w on the 12v rails, which for a supposedly 580w psu is poor. Even worse is the fact that they are incapable of outputting their claimed 580w in the first place. I used to have one and when it blew up (flames, black smoke and clean trousers time) it took out a two week old DFI motherboard. I would'nt buy another let alone a so called re-conditioned one. Buy a decent psu in the first place and you won't regret it.

/facepalm

Would REALLY advise you to get a new PSU.

the ocz modstream 600w is only around 50 pounds, why don't you go for that?

This is why I like Corsair, you get the FULL wattage on the 12v rail and then they give you a liitle extra (ie: an extra 150w on my HX 850:D) for the 3v and 5v.
Hypers really dont have the best reputation around here and unfortunatly the 580w is THE worst of the bunch

£40 - wheeree from, i spent ages searching for a decent >=500w PSU - only one to come up is stealthxstream 500w at around £40
Other than that however, for aroudn the 400 mark you can't really get anything better.
