Hi guys, this is my first ever build, and so far I've come to the following. Feel free to criticise and improve, thanks a lot.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB)
-as opposed to a quad core (i don't do any 3d rendering/video, just games)

Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB22GB8500C5DC)
-good quality ram?

Force3D ATI Radeon HD 4870 "Black Edition" 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
-power of 4870 with cooling & noise of an AC TT? (+warranty)

Seasonic S12 Energy+ 550/650 OR Enermax Modu82+ 625W??
-have heard these are good PSUs + quiet

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS)
-have heard it's a nice quiet HDD

Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
-again, have heard is a good drive, nice and quiet

Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black)

Scythe S-FLEX 800RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3/4 pin
-not sure how many of these i would need..

Logitech X-140 2.0 Speaker System

I'm a complete novice to PC hardware, so I've tried to give my reasons for choices in italics. As you can see noise is very important to me, it doesn't have to be silent, just very quiet ;) I'd also like the PC to be good for games for a few years to come. I'm thinking of using either a 17 or 19 inch LCD for this. Is 1440x900 res. as well supported for games as 1280x1024? (I have no idea whether 19in is too big for above setup, or could i go bigger?)
Thanks for your help,
Al

what price that come to? I would get Samsung f1 hdd instead and the zalman psu if there the same price.

Good quality ram? but you could do with the 4Gb kit.

It comes to about £750 with the zalman, which is similarly priced ;).
Which is a good brand for a 4GB kit, and should i go for DDR2 or DDR3?
Thanks for your advice,
Al

Definetly ddr2 as ddr3 not worth the extra money,if your running 64bit os then upgrade to 4gig ram if you can afford it and 19" will be fine for the above

Thanks, what do you think of the "Dark Knight" for an ASUS 4870?? I'm after one that's fairly quiet, relatively cool, lowish power consomption when idle.
