I've been building this one for another mate, (all the work I do for free is tiring). Anyway I wouldn't sleep if I ripped off mates.

He's into wedding photography and does this at weekends and is trying to build it up so that he can go full-time in the future.

It would have been easy to design a smart black/white site that most people have which I think gives them a sleekness and professional touch. But, I thought that most people looking for these sites would the fairer sex so something warmer would be better.

site is here

tell me what you think.

there's no further pages than the front at the moment. So I'm more interested in the design aspect.

the slideshow is just a bit of fun at the moment too (as you'll see)

BTW .. the images are not done by him, he's much better than that. These ar e mine from a wedding I went to.

nice start mate.

Could do with the site moving more to the top of the screen, also I think that with the first page being quite small it leaves a lot of the background exposed which isent doing it for me.

Not sure if its the color of the background or just the fact that theres so much of it becasue of the small site but then again it could just be me.

Struggling to find any real faults. I love the design, definately a professional feel.

Good job

thanks for those, initial impressions are always important.

I built it to sort of try and place it in the middle of the screen, of course horizontal is OK but the vertical is a problem.

And I suppose not everyone has got a 1280x1024 screen. DO you think it would be better to assume that most viewers would have at least 1024x768? the current one still looks OK on 800x600. Maybe I should fix the height and just let it centre horizontally.

Not a great fan of the yellow background; I feel there's too much of it and it's quite distracting at high resolution.

Like the layout, it's smart and concise. I'd personally put the contact button on the right side of the navigation. The intended audience will be reading from left-to-right, and people are more likely to want to view the goods first and then make contact.

I think you need to work on the typography. The serif font looks out of place and unstyled. Play with line-heights, letter-spacing and so on. I think a sans-serif font would look better for your main text - it would follow the style of the title graphic and navigation buttons.

:)

I'll move the nav buttons around like u said. I think you're right it'd, be more intuitive that way.

agreed the main text looks off with current style, I'll change it to a cleaner font.

the background ... hmm? is it too bright? maybe a yellow/grey tone would be better so as not to distract too much. I'll have a play with it ...

I would still try and design for the 800x600 res but the trick is getting a design that works well in all. But like Augmented I'm viewing this at a high res i.e. 1920x1200 so it probably looks a lot worse that it normally would.

try playing with the color as sugested or even add some kind of gradient to the bakground to try and break it up a little.

Biggest worries, contact button, positioning.

Although, youve also used an image behind the text etc.. and the line it creates on the left, because the image isnt the width of the entire box, it looks odd. Furthermore, the image has some strange marks under the title.. which makes it look.. dirty..

Try taking out the background image and see if it makes it look cleaner and more professional.

:-S .. dirty? hmm... that's no good.

have updated it with background removed, how'd it look? better or bland?

(I'll reorganise the nav buttons soon, have to recolour them so that oranges don't clash)

for a gallery I was thinking of one in MM Flash like someone mentioned a little while ago, simpleviewer. looks very swish and no one will want to print them out. But MM flash takes a while to load all the baggage.

do you know of anything better?
