For a quick upgrade stick with most of what you have and add more RAM, swap the graphics card out for a 7850, and maybe add a SSD.

For a complete upgrade then go for something based around an i5 3570K. Do you have a rough budget, one of us should be able to spec something for you.

OOps, meant this...

TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38192M1600HC11DC) [TED38GM1600HC11DC01]
£31.99 inc VAT

I've always been with AMD

I'll spend around £700 as I can recoup about £250 on the parts being replaced

I need a fast 2nd drive for use with Steam games, and 512gb SSD are too expensive

Is there really any need for having more than 4gb memory?

ps. I'll never swap to ATI again, originally I had a GTX 260 (DX10) and swapped out with a 5770 (DX11), overall performance and FPS were lower with the 5770

I'm also looking to use Nvidia 3D vision with the XL2420T

If I went the Intel route with an Asus Sabertooth + 3570K, I'm spending £60 more, I can still get £20 off the AMD cpu with their promotion, so I've saving £80

Now this is going to be a war? whats your reason for going with amd? If an i3 dose a better job than the bulldozer dosent that say something ?

Had a play around, but with your budget you are not going to get everything you want.

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 660TI 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (3660-KR) with FREE Borderlands 2 PC Game £237.98
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC128D/EU) £89.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £84.98
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £31.19
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket LGA2011/1366/1155/1156/775/ AMD AM3/AM3+/AM2/AM2+/FM1) £29.99
Total : £666.12 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Use the 500GB HDD you have and look up something called steam mover.

Some newer games do use more than 4GB of RAM. BF3 can use around 6GB.

The Intel route may cost more but it will give you better gaming performance, see the link in Idleman's post.

I've never had any performance issues with an AMD setup, I can run Crysis 2 constant at 60fps max (maybe more if my monitor was capable of 120hz)

I never had an issue with AMD's cpu's until i went with my 1st Intel chip and omg what a difference i will never buy another AMD cpu in my life

In the past when you were buying your previous computers components AMD provided a good alternative to Intel. Their chips provided good performance while remaining cheaper than their Intel rivals. However with Bulldozer they dropped the ball, it was a new architecture and it has not performed well enough to compete with either Sandy / Ivybridge.

Really?, every user review on this website has given the FX 5 stars

That's because people who buy BD CPUs are going to be biased towards it, and try and make it out to be better than it is. An 8150 would if anything be a downgrade from your 1090t, BD has terrible IPC- worse than Phenom II. The only real upgrade for you would be a 3570k/3770k (or a 2500k/2600k if they are significantly cheaper), if you can't stretch that far then I'd just hold off the upgrade for a while.

OK, I've revamped the upgrade, I just read a preview of the MSI Big Bang MPower Z77, will this be available on OcUK soon?

I don't need to replace the GTX 560ti

A good listener you are young padawan...:D

You should see some of the people with egg on their face who have opted for the AMD route. Granted, it is budget specific, but with your budget, you'd be a fool to choose AMD over Intel. They have wiped the floor this time round.

Also, do you need a new case? The CM690 II are good cases, what you save on the case you could sell your 560 TI and buy a 7950 or something, food for thought.

AMD could come back, it all goes in cycles to be honest, AMD64 was a classic chip, i had a lot of fun overclocking them with my DFI Lanparty.
