As of tomorrow i will have ordered all of my friends pieces for my friends new first build. Whats do you guys think? Should this be enough to handle games such as battlefield bad company 2 full spec? Regards. This is for my friend who we will both be building

System:

Nzxt Phantom
i5 760 @ 4ghz
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD6
Corsair h50 Cooler
4GB Corsair Dominator
Evga GTX 480
WD 640GB Caviar 64MB Cache
Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD

Spec looks reasonable, I would have gone for the Samsung 1TB F3 for the Hard drive, not sure how good the monitor is.

What could improve this spec before i purchase ALL of the bits please? Anything that will give a better increase in games.

Not all of this is ordered yet baring the case and a few bits and bobs

what psu are you planning ot get/have, make sure if you havent bought the psu to give yourself some room for future sli :D
yes hdd would be f3 1tb
how about an ssd, i know you asked how to improve it for games but im just throwing ideas :D

Bar a SSD not a lot in my mind, the Samsung hard drive would have increased storage with virtually no loss of performance.

The psu is a 750watt, corsair i believe which he has removed from his old computer.

Have you got a link to the harddrive please, in all fairness we have only gone for the higher cache because we was told it would improve performance especially with it been sata3. He had discussed SSD drives but wanted to wait a couple of months for prices to fall, hopefully to upgrade before christmas.

Was we right in saying stick to the i5 instead of the i7 for gaming? I know a lot of people can't justify +£200 for minimal frames increase?

Ok great so if theres nothing more i can add, i think it tee's it up :]

I use the SSD linked above for my boot drive and the Samsung F3 1TB for all my games and non important programs.

You were right - i7 gives 0 FPS over i5 in todays games.

No mechanical HDD is fast enough to reach the limits of SATA2, so a SATA3 controller on a mechanical HDD is kinda pointless. Stick with a much cheaper sammy F3 and get an SSD when you think the price is right.

Right that's a great help off everyone. So before he goes ahead there's nothing we can buy to give more frames in game or just an overall better performance?

Get a MSI GTX 470, l'm running one at 800/1600/1800, performance is nearly as good as a 480, the money you save about £130. Put some towards a H70, when you built your PC's get some beer in and get a pizza in when your hungry, enjoy your new PC :).

I would get a GTX470, Titan Fenrir Evo, Samsung F3 1TB and a OCZ Vertex 2E 60gb SSD.If you really want good high end air-cooling go for a Megahalems with 2 Akasa Viper fans.
