iv built a few pcs over the years but never tried to overclock anything heres what iv got now

gigabyte p55 ud5 1156 mobo
4 gig corsair xms3 1600 mhz cas8 ram
corsair h50 watercooler
i5 750 cpu 2.66ghz
powercolor h5770 gfx card

iv set the ram clock and voltage manually in the bios auto set it to 1.5v (should be 1.65) and 1333 mhz thats now set to 1.66v and 1600 mhz

the cpu has been clocked in the bios to 3.2 ghz
bus speed is 160 and multiplier is 20

gfx card runs at 875 stock iv gone upto 900 and 1300 mem clock

iv got prime95 but dont really know how to use it i did torture test for 10 mins cpu runs flat out temps seemed to stabilize at 40-43 degs
heres a screenshot after the test

is that setup ok??
im a noob as far as overclocking goes so any advice is welcome

1 question iv got is what is temp3/tmpin2 and why the hell is it 88 degs on idle????

Hi, all though iv never used the I5's from doing abit of checking tmpin2, is ur motherboard sensor, and it seems most get fairly hot, so it would be best to make sure your case cooling is free from obstructions.

It won't be 88c on idle, it probably went upto that when u started doing ur gaming, and it will take time to lose the heat from it.

About the gfx card 50c temps under gaming is fine don't worry about it.

I can't comment on the actual overclock or voltages as i don't have experience of that but im sure others will in time.

Ah i see, mmm im gonna have to pass this on to the people that know that motherboard then, but i do know from reading reviews on it, that it does run hot.

Hope that others will be able to help advise you, sorry that i can't any futher.

v just restarted the pc and the temp has dropped to 16 degs and seems stable at that could it have been a slightly dodgy reading?

the temps on ur cores, indicate that you can easily overclock more, so thats fine, the autotune way of overclocking on the gfx will never ever find ur max overclock, as it allways plays safe, but seems fine to me, i would'nt mess to much with overclocking the gfx really.

Speedfan is unreliable as it tends to make up temperatures. If I run it I'm informed that something is at 120 degrees or so, and I'm in a cold room and watercooling so this just isn't true.

I'd say the cpu overclock is very conservative, and that I much prefer overclocking graphics cards in the bios. It's a good spec but needs more time spent on it to see it reach its potential.

CPU overclocking is covered very extensively on these forums and others, I'll summarise as 10 minutes of prime 95 is not conclusive, 8 hours is more usual. Intel burn test or linx with memory set to maximum is the quickest test, at least 10 loops but preferably more. if you read a few guides on how to overclock the P55 systems it should be pretty obvious how to proceed.

Graphics card is a bit more confusing as there's a few approaches. Most people just run software like you have done, and stability test using something like furmark. However it is possible to copy the gpu bios from the card, change the clock frequencies, and flash it back on, achieving a permanent overclock that will be present without software, even if you reinstall windows or move it to a new computer. The approach I use and recommend is to find the highest stable clocks I can using furmark and f@h as stability tests. I'm furmark stable at 750 core, but only folding stable at 725 (different card to yours). I've then flashed the card to conservative overclocks, 700mhz core. This way I'm confident that it'll be stable even if temperatures change, say in summer, or if I move it to a new computer. I then increase it the extra 25mhz in software. It's a bit more involved, but it's more satisfying.

im running the cpu at 4 ghz it seems perfectly stable and the highest temps its been to is low 50s
i havnt touched the voltage its at 1.328 should i leave it at that or do i need to change it?
