I'm going to put a new system together and wanted to know if i've chosen good parts.

The minor complication is that I need to buy the parts through my dads business account with another company so i dont have benefit of OCUK massive stock.

If i've chosen any particularly naff parts let me know and i'll have a look at what else is available to me.

Sapphire RADEON HD 4850 Graphics Card

OCZ Enhanced Latency Gold Gamer eXtreme XTC Edition Dual Channel
*
Core 2 Quad Q6600/775 2.40G FSB1066 8MB*

WD Caviar Black WD5001AALS

MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA HOME BASIC X64 SP1 1PK - OEM PRODUCT*
*
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3
*
OCZ 500W STEALTH EXTREME PSU

Many thanks

RAM seems a little overkill tbh. Could change to some Corsair Twin X if you wanted to save cash. Oh and get an after market cooler and over clock it. pretty good otherwise.

Ditch the poor OCZ psu for a decent brand. The new Enermax Modu 82+/Pro 82+ range are excellent. Otherwise Zalman heatpipe and PC Power and Cooling silencer psu's are excellent too.

The place im getting it from doesn't do many other makes of PSU. Antec are the only other brand i recognise.

Cheers.

I could get an Antec EarthWatts EA500 GB if thats any better?

Is the Q6600 a good choice bearing in mind that i only play games, poker and whatnot. Would a dual core be more suitable than a quad core?

Also, would an Asus or gigabyte mobo be better than MSI?

And finally, the case i currently have is a Lian Li that i've had for about 4 or 5 years - a PC-60 or something. Will that still suffice or would something some more modern be needed?

And could someone recomend me a decent, quiet, CPU cooler? I could get that from Ocuk as they're not too pricey.

I would take the Earthwatts over the OCZ.

For gaming etc then a dual core makes more sense at the moment. When multithreaded games become mainstream it will be the turn of the quad. I can't see it happening any time soon though.

Personally i think MSI have gone to pot. Their boards (from my experience) are now poor quality bug ridden rubbish. I would take an Asus or Gigabyte anyday.

Cases are more personal really. Lian-Li's are fine cases and age really well.

As for a cooler, people really rate the TRUE. At the budget end of the market the Akasa AK-965 is easily as ggod as the more expensive Freezer 7 Pro.

Thanks for that.

So, as i only really use my PC for gaming, videos and poker and i'd better off with say an E8500 than a Q6600?

I've never overclocked before and i dont really plan on trying as i dont want **** it up so i'd only really want to spend £20-30 on a CPU cooler.

Well if you are not going to clock it then the AK-965 would be more than enough and it only cost's £12.95. :D

The extra clockspeed of the E8500 will be better than the 2.4ghz of the quad as well.
