So I've essentially "quit" playing WoW, just because it sucks too much time - and requires too much as well, would you reckon that my PC will be able to play Crysis 2, upcoming shooters such as BF3, MW3, etc at 1080p med-high, or am I best off just sticking to consoles for the games?

you will be fine for now imo.
i have a q6600 @ 3.4, 4gb ram and a hd5850 and i can play crysis 2 on high settings at 1920 x 1080, and your pc is better than mine

it'll be fine with medium-high settings on the graphics killers like crysis and metro, and maximum for everything else:

i'm not sure if its the same with crysis 2, but on crysis 1 and crysis warhead The Centurion gave me a lovely custom config that gave me much better FPS than you would get on maximum while slightly increasing the graphics.

also, since games rarely use more than 4 cores of a processor you should be able to get away with recording your gameplay without so much of an FPS drop
