as it gets to d3d tests just goes blank the screen and i have to reboot...i suspect my graphics card the x5870 vapor-x oc might be causing this...anyone got any ideas...i have also just installed a ssd yesterday a intel 80gb x25 if thats any help thanks.
 
no not overclocked.....the power supply is a jeantech 700w storm.....a little update it crashes on the direct 3d aero assistant test thanks.... ill have to install a game and try it. aswell see if thats ok .
 
Just tried call of duty 4...game locks up and goes to a grey screen.....so no my games dont work either by the looks....ok ive installed my old 4890 again.....the rate my computer works ok now and the games play ok....so looks like its the 5870 vapor-x to fault by the looks ive only had it over a week....and as you can see by my posts ive had nothing but problems with it....has anyone got a idea whats wrong like say bios settings mine are just set to normal default......or could it be my psu does the 5870 take more power thanks.

my 5850 does this some my screen just goes blank then 1-2 seconds later it comes back on again some times it crashes!
 
ok bought a new one same problem but i am running solid state drive and have just disconnected the other drives including my raid as well and it seems to work now...i think there is a problem with the raid and the solid state conflicting somehow.
 
it does sound like a power issue thou.

you bought a new PSU ? if so, what one did you buy

a lot of the cheap psus simply cant deleiver enough stable power for high end graphics cards.
and when you start stressing the cards, they draw more power. This is y games can often cause crashes if you system is instable

in most cases, the number of W is simply meaningless on cheat psus. a lot even quote the maximum power, not the average

its always best to go for a top PSU, will cost you abit more, but they are well worth it imho
 
i bought a 750w one from ##world as its the only place i could get one today as in liverpool there isnt decent shops to go get one this one HIGHPOWER ATX 750W 80+ 99.99 i know never heard of them....now listen to this one you know i said it crashed then i disabled all my drives and it worked ok ive connected the drives one by one even my raid.....now it dosnt crash how weird is that ......do you think its possible windows has allocated different resources to them doin that . what power supply would you recommend?

The brand that is recommended by most people are corsairs or Seasonic psu and Be Queit. You are paying more money but for better quality product.

With a decent spc machine you got in the Sig I would not trust to put in a cheap Jenatech or Highpower PSU just in case it blows and take out other hardware.
 
i know money isnt the problem on the power supply....think ive found out why its running ok now the graphics card is under clocked now after putting my 5870 vaporx back in from the 4890....
 
That definetly sounds like a psu issue, you say you've underclocked the card to get it to work, at faster speeds gfx cards consume a great deal more power if highly overclocked....more than you expect and also you should take that one back then get either a OCZ/Seasonic/Corsair/Antec/Enermax/Tagan/Zalman/Coolermaster/BeQuiet one from here around 750w so you can crossfire later on.

Ok ive just ordered that power supply see what happens when i get it....as i can run the card no probs at the emory speed being ruduced from the 1250mhz to 1000 mhz no probs .

its running now at 1200mhz memory speed....so its not to far off hopefully the power supply sorts this lol.

no not odd atall i am on dvi at the moment have tried display port and hdmi all do the same thing ....i have it running now at 875mhz/1200mhz seems fine but thats still under what the speeds should be on the 5870 vapour x oc should be 875mhz/1250mhz so it gets the 875/5000mhz speed.....hopefully the power supply sorts this out might just need that extra voltage of a better power supply... another problem all though the card is running stable getting a lot of like flickering and lines on the second monitor i am using...ahhhhhh if only things were easy lol. back to using the display port .....works great just interfernce on my second monitor what ever connection i use .

I dont think any components are faulty tbh, might just be because you switched graphics cards without a clean install. When i moved from an HD4650 to my HD4870, All my games, ati overdrive, etc were all still only on the HD4870 settings which caused me problems. I did a clean install with the new card and everything was fixed!

You can try it if you have a spare hard drive lying around
 
no mate same probs with new power supply been speaking to sapphire excellent people just cant help me so rma i tomorrow just dont know which one to get as there seem to be a lot of people with the crashing and flickering...white screens and grey screens....
temi d....i have reformatted even put a ssd in since i got the card so thats not the probs mate thanks anyway.
 
all fixed now had to get a exchange....card was faulty but changed it for the normal vapor x not the overclocked one....its been working with no probs for 3 days now.
