Asus M2R32-MVP Crossfire (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

I will be running this with my Tagan G580 Easycon Whatsit, and my Radeon X1900XT 256.

How long would this setup last in terms of playing current games etc at high graphics levels? Particulary if i were to invest in a HIS ATI Radeon X1900 ICEQ3 SILENT Heatpipe ***Crossfire Edition*** 512MB GDDR3 (PCI-Express) - Retail.

Also, would all that stuff fit in an Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case, because it's not really too clear from the description.

For the price of that motherboard and CPU you could have a Core2 Duo setup that would outperform it in everything. Such as:

MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £114.99 (£135.11)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £142.99 (£168.01)

Total : £312.82 (inv vat + shipping)

This board still has the ability to go crossfire at a later date and the 6400 CPU will be far better than the 4600+.

yes mate it would.

And as said above - have you considered Core 2 Duo, for the amount of money your spending it could be cheaper with superior performance :)

Regardless of how good it is, i have a strage urge to avoid Intel like the plague. :P

your prerogative (i must admit i am the same) - in that case then, hmm pretty good rig :) wouldn't recommend anything different - good luck

One more thing actually. If i have a crossfire ready mobo, will a single NON master-card series X1900 work on it's own until i can afford the master-card?

Why would you knowingly choose to spend more on inferior hardware?

Core 2 Duo is the dog's danglies and shall be for a while yet.

So that Duo CPU Mobo combo whatsit, that'll go Crossfire yah?

Also, anything else needed for Intel stuff? I read about above Mobo...says something about an FB?

Edit. Also, what do you reckon the price drop will be on these by say, December 1st? Or will there be better stuff for the same/cheaper?

I don't see any significant price drops coming for either AMD or Intel. Core2 Intel chips don't require anything special. Just get a 965, 975 or nVidia 680 based motherboard and some DDR2 to go with it. I have no idea what someone meant by FB.

If someone else can come along and suggest a better crossfire Core2 motherboard then that would be great. The one I suggested isn't the best but I don't know which crossfire board would be better.

"- Support 1066/800/533 MHz FSB "

That's what i meant.

Also, significant is not a problem, i'm talking even 10/20 quid drop in price by December 1st may allow me to get better hardware. Someone mentioned that the Radeon X1900 Series was no longer in production. Presumably these will begin to drop?
