Settle the proverbial stupid argument.

When describing a Ratio, for the sake of argument, Mixing an orange juice drink 4:! "4 parts water to one part squash/concentrate"

Has it ever been acceptable to refer to this as a ration and not a ratio.
"The ration of water to juice is 4 :1 "

or is this some kind of American *******ization of English where rationing has been confused with ratio and become interchangeable by the dumb.

Or am i dumb? Dont answer that. :(

Ratio.

A ration is: John needs to survive for ten days and has ten fillet steaks,
How many steaks per day should John eat?

You could describe a ratio with rations in the sense of one ration of water to 4 rations of squash as a ration is basically a fixed amount of a product/substance/thing. If anything the word ration probably came from the ratio's they were using sometime in the distant past as a way of defining the amounts they were handing out in times of war famine or other hardship that required resources to be shared fairly in order for survival.

I often write 'ration' as a typo of 'ratio', possibly could be something similar going on?

Dilute to colour not to taste. It's a 12:1 ratio, 12 equal measure of water to one measure of concentrate. Using same measure.

That's how to ration the Orange juice. Make it last longer, ratio is how to mix it, thus aiming to achieve the desired number of rations.

You were doing well until you typed "ratio's", then you MURDERED it.
