Rattling Noise on my 330Ci

The car seems to have developed a rattling noise which (I think) is coming from the underside of the car. It seems to kick in at lower revs, so when pulling away from junctions/roundabouts and I would say it’s more noticeable when cornering.

Initially I thought it might be a problem with the suspension but I think its definitely under the car which leads me to think the exhaust. I asked a mate who owned a bimmer once and he said to check the rubber mounts around the exhaust as these can perish, either that or a dodgy mount bracket.

Just thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone can back that up or suggest any other ideas?

Its a 330Ci Sport with 40k on the clock.

Quite common, for some reason they make the heat shields out of the thinnest material known to man, having mine replaced on the 530i next week. The parts are relatively cheap, however the fitting isn't! If the holes that have corroded through aren't too big you can always put some washers over them and secure it again.
 
Someone else had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago, cant remember who or whether it was sorted, but a search may throw something up
 
Nah there was definitely a rattle post - I remember suggesting the exhaust heat shield....

Dont know if it was a 330 but was definitely a 3 series

Fixed.

If it's had a whack or a load of cold water splashed over it it could quite possibly be cracked. Dads 25k Merc E200 needed a replacement cat after he drove through a flooded road. A newish one went on the Scorp Cosworth after driving through some snow. Also had a mechanic friend that dropped a cat maybe 2 inches and when fitted it rattled. He was very pleased. And the reason he was replacing the cat in the first place? The customer bashed the cat on a rock at the side of the motorway.

I'd go with the heat shield simply rattling though, but as it had already been said I thought I'd throw another option into the mix.

Hi Guys (sorry been away from the comp for a bit)

Thanks for the suggestions, I will hand it to my local garage guy next week and ask him to check the heat shield. I am driving to london early July so want to get it sorted before then. I assume this isnt a serious issue?
 
I looked under my e36 today...the heat shield has snapped on both the bolt locations on the driver's side of it...so it rattles against the exhaust. :D
 
Well on the e36 there are a couple, but the one that's rattling for me is the mid section, if you stick your head under the car (doesn't need to be backed up) and look for some stuff that looks like thick tinfoil bolted to the bottom of the car and going between the exhaust and underside of the car.
