So, my PSU is making a rattling noise but when I lay the tower flat on the floor it stops and when I stand it up again the rattling starts.

Weird one, I've dismantled it , air dusted every thing, made sure there was nothing touching it, short of dismantling the PSU , can't think of anything else.

Is this dangerous/PSU failing sign? I think it's still under manufacterers warranty

It could also be the cables inside catching on the fan if it's not a fully modular design.

edit: maybe not if you've already dismantled it. :p

I haven't dismantled it, it's an Antec 520w PSU. It's almost 3 years old as well.

Just really weird, it seems to be on and off as well as it's not doing it now, and what I don't understand is if I put the case on it's side on the floor it stops , if the fan is going I'm guessing I'd have to replace this before it overheats and takes the rest of the system with it?

There's probably something loose inside that touches the fan in the upright position. When you turn the case on it's side, whatever it is moves and lets the fan run freely.
