I have recently made a new HTPC build for my front living room. It has a i3 6100 in it, unfortunately the case doesn't have all that much room to breathe in my AV rack above and below it so as the case is horizontal the CPU is getting very hot under load. I imagine this is partly due to the GPU having an open air design which is just recirculating air heating everything up. I am going to get a reference blower design GPU soon which should help the situation.

Does anyone else use this case and can recommend a good CPU cooler given the lack of space? Its a shame they don't do a blower style CPU cooler to try and push the air out the back. The closest I found was the corsair H5 but I've read that doesn't fit.

I'm not sure what else you can do other than like you say, try a blower style GPU cooler and possible swap the stock heatsink on the 6100 to something else like the Noctua L9i?

I have an RVZ02 with a 6100 on the stock cooler and it works well, but of course its a different layout with the GPU in its own compartment up top.

The poor i3 6100 is hitting 80c on stock clock/volts. The GPU hits 80c+ then it throttles to keep it down to 80. I imagine if it wasn't in an AV rack and placed vertically it would be fine, its just that the only way for the heat to escape it out the front or back of the rack.

I was tempted to get a Silverstone argo 06 or something for the CPU but just thought I would see what other people have done before buying one.

Yeah its the RVZ01-E. I didn't realise that the E version had a different layout above the motherboard than the RVZ01.

I have seen a few people put AIO coolers on the CPU, my issue with that is one of cost... Most are £50+ and it just seemed overkill for a £120 CPU. My budget was around £20-30.
