RAW DATA RECOVERY

Hi guys, I have just had a HD go down on me and now it is saying it a RAW drive and all the data is showing as gone.

I'm trying a data recovery app now but it wants to charge me for recovery of the data.

Is there any good, properly free utilities out there that can help me to get my data back without paying for it?

http://www.piriform.com/recuva might be able to do something.

http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm is my favourite. The demo will give you an idea of what is recoverable.

corrupt partition table probably,

attach it to a working windows PC via sata (not usb) it will probably do a chkdsk on the first boot, if it does not try and force a chkdsk...

if its a software thing this will likely fix it

Best software I use for data recovery is (in order)

File Scavenger.

Active Undelete.

Get Data Back.

Testdisk: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk will allow you to rebuild the partitions, I'd recommend a verbatim image backup before messing with it though.
