Raw processing + Clarity?

I haven't been able to find a good explaination of this function online.

It looks like it gives micro contrast boost and sharpens the image up.

Are there any downsides to it? It seems to have a major effect on all photos I'm taking :D
 
Negative clarity also works well on people shots as well. Just don't overdo it in either direction or else your photos can end up looking daft.
 
i find going one way a lil is good for portaits to soften a lil and other way when doing flowers/cars etc to bring out detail a lil.
but as said above just a bit is more than enough
 
Every now and again reset it and check that it's not looking too silly, basically reset your eyes to what a standard shot looks like. Have found myself going way too overboard sometimes when I hadn't had a break lol.
