The keyboards feels just how a mechanical keyboard should with nice clicking noise and feel, the only niggle I found whilst testing the keyboard in Quake 3 was that the SpaceBar is raised high at the front and slides down towards the rear of the keyboard - feels a little odd to start but after a few minutes I got used to it.

The keyboard have 2 USB cables leading from it - one cable is for keyboard itself and the lighting is powered via the cable, and the second cable is for the build in USB 2.0 hub which is localed of the right side of the keyboard. The keyboard also has 2 audio cables leading from it - this is to connect to your sound card and is used as a passthrough for the keyboard which also has the audio connections for your headset/speakers located on the right side next to the USB port.

The keyboard has 5 macro keys on the right hand side, and are very easy to program and the Razer software is very good and easy to use.

The keyboard has a Fn key (Function) that when you press allows you to control various things with the F1-F12 keys - all the F keys have icons to show you what the controls are. They are various media controls like play, stop, fast forward, rewind, skip etc. F12 and function allows you to cycle through the various lighting modes.
1. Off
2. Low
3. Meduim
4. High
5. Pulse Mod
The levels are lighting are spot on with a good range to select depending on your personal preference. The pulse mode does go completely off and then cycles to full brightness in a smooth motion, I personally feel that the pulse should have not gone off completely but just to a very low setting, but again that is just personal opinion.

Keystrokes
The keys themselves are very good, the mechanical nature of the buttons make the keyboard feel very responsive and you feel connected to it as apposed to just "using" it. The noise made by the keys are quite loud, however that is part fo the mechanical experience and after a while I think you will start to not notice the noise as much, when I game I tend to use my headset which does have noise cancelling ear shells so whilst gaming the noise for me is not a negative at all.

Vs the competition
At home I use a G19 keyboard (used to have a G15 rev1) and at work I used a G110 keyboard, for the actual keyboard and to type/game on then the Black Widow is far superior to any of the Logitech I use. The G19 does have more functionality with the LED screen built into it - however I raraely use it at home anyway.

love my black widow, very tempted to get this version now.

damn you Ace Modder and your tempting peripherals!

Without reading anything on the page.

£122 for a keyboard
I truely don't understand why somebody who knows nothing about the keyboard posts this.... (after clearly admitting they did not even read the data on the keyboard and my review)

Since the keyboard is Mechanical, i own the standard version and think it's worth every penny would never go back to a rubber dome keyboard.
But then somebody who owns a version of this keyboard posts (who clearly understands the quality of the product)

Why do people who don't even read the thread properly feel the need to post needless comments about the price?

I don't think there's actually much difference between this one and expert (I may be wrong) but from what I gathered it was mostly only the lighting that was different?

No, the first quote was of the negative comments, then I quoted you mjones1 advising that your post was better as you understand the qualities of the item.

This is nowhere near the most expensive keyboard OcUK have ever stocked :)

Nice write up Ace Modder, your thoughts are much appreciated, especially since I'm on the lookout for a replacement to my G11.

Ah if only i had the money for this. :(

I have used nothing but a Razer Tarantula for the last 2 years both at work and home (been using the one at home for around 4 or 5 years now). I just couldn't stand the dell/hp keyboards at work so invested in a second keyboard to use exclusively at work.

As a developer the macro keys have come in handy for a wide variety of tasks.

The one thing that puts me of this keyboard is the home, end, del cluster configuration. I guess I am so used to having them in the Tarantula configuration it always annoy me when i press the page up key on another keyboard when i'm expecting end to be there.

my black widow [non backlit version] is a superb board.
just like my old IBM board, the switches in the keys are brilliant and it is a treat to type on.

i would not consider a non mech board now, at all.
when replying to webnotes at work i find it annoying to type on other boards for long periods of time.

the black widow is very good for gaming too, neat software and no flashing rubbish like my previous two logitech boards.

finally found a board i like and wont be getting rid of my BW for a while.
the gloss finish is not anywhere near as bad as many reviews i read suggested.
wipe it with a cloth once a week and its all good. it doesnt attract fingerprints much either

the reason this is a lot more expensive is because it has the usb hub and mic jacks in addition to the backlight.
i have read that it is difficult to backlight a mech board because each key has to be individually lit, i touch type so i dont need the board to have backlit keys but i can imagine it would be great for people who need it.

hope my insight helps :)

A. Despite what they say they cant afford it
B. Are the same people who expect a £40 1000w psu not to kill their rig

;)
But a £120 keyboard won't make other hardware 'be more reliable'

Yes, hands up. I can't afford to spend so much on a keyboard and yes I have never used a mechanical keyboard. I guess it's one of those things where you need to use one so you can 'feel' the advantages.

The keys look cool as well ^^

/Googles to find about more about these mechanical keyboards

I've been thinking about getting one of these for a few days now. Although whats the foreign letter all about on a-e-i-o-u keys? Slightly off putting i must say.

Few questions if anyone can answer. Is it really so awesome people should get it over a G19?

The hotkeys for media player interaction, does the software support winamp/spotify?

Audio cables, do they plug into the back of your soundcard with 3.5mm?

Not sure if razer can win me over on this keyboard, i need some persuading :P
