Hi, I've recently purchased one of these and have already installed the lastest drivers/firmware for this and I'm not particularly pleased with it.

In fact I bought this to replace my Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 because I thought the problem was due to the wireless aspect. I've just realised that both laser mice aren't very good with small movements, trying to highlight text is quite difficult and double-clicking has been quite erratic as well - I've even lowered the sensitivity to 3-4 in the Razer configuration software. Last year I've had more success with my bog standard Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Optical.... Hmm... so now I'm thinking of flogging it... and going back to optical. :( This the right decision? I've tried both my 5000 and my current Razer on cloth mat and a plastic mat and both yield the same results.

Can anyone recommend a decent optical mouse for gaming for under £25 inc?

Keep the DPI at the highest in the razer configuration software, and turn down the windows sensitivity, and give it a shot :)

Hmm... seems to be slightly better. Although I might just be imagining it.

you seriously don't want to use a copperhead for desktop work.
it's a twitch gaming tool and hates window sliders etc.
just use a normal mouse for desktop stuff and the Razer for gaming. thats what i do.

Or go for a diamondback or deathadder.

I've had all three and the copperhead comes last out of them - no question.

Laser has not matured yet... optical's still much better.

A mouse should be good no matter. If there's a problem at desktop level then there'll sure as heck be one in game as it's not even doing the simple stuff properly!

My diamondback and deathadder have always been impeccable game or desktop.
When i got the adder i didn't sell the diamondback like i had with my copperhead - i simply took it to work to use there.

If you're not happy i would put money on a decent optical solving your problem!
I'd get a logitech MX-510, or either of the above that i've suggested depending on budget.
If you sell your copper you could definately afford a diamondback or the logitech.

Finally, if you could afford the extra £10 - £15 over what you'd get for the copper i'd definately get the adder. I've had several laser and optical mice in the past and it's a lot better than them all!

Well a little frustrated and I don't particularly want to have to swap a mouse in and out when I want to switch between desktop and a game of CSS/CNC.

To be honest, I was going to save and just go for a Microsoft Comfort Optical 3000 for about £18? Are both the Diamondback and DeathAdder optical - DeathAdder is infrared? Which is the better buy?

I'm also intending to stick with a corded mice.

Both optical but as you've identified the adder is infrared so you don't get a red glow as you would with a normal optical mouse.

Just to reiterate... i only got the adder after trying a friends. At that point i'd had a diamondback for about 3 months and had found it much better than the copperhead. But on trying the deathadder i knew i wanted one.

It is honestly that good!

Google search 'deathadder' and 'review' and go to the ESReality review. Shows how the laser mice malfunction under acceleration whilst gaming. Deathadder comes out on top.

Thanks for the review link. Looks like I picked the wrong mouse for my purposes. :( Optical still seems the way to go. It never really felt write in Windows using the Copperhead and in gaming, although very responsive - just doesn't cut it for me.

See how you get on selling it. I sold my copperhead on the MM for £25 as it's lead was slightly damaged. Then i only paid an extra £2 to get the diamondback brand new.

My Adder cost me £37 delivered on MM too.

If you're copper is sold in 'as new' condition and fully boxed you should get a good price.

Give it a go.
