So, I hadn't used my computer for ~9 months as I am in a different country. Upon receiving the computer from the courier I set it up and it wouldnt POST.

I have narrowed this down, after hours of trial and error, to my new Razer Lachesis mouse that I have been using with my laptop in the meantime and have never used on the PC.

With the mouse plugged in the computer hangs on 'Checking memory..' part of POST every single time. Without the mouse, computer boots up entirely fine.

How is this possible?

I have flashed BIOS (IP35-E motherboard) to the latest (18), no joy. Fresh out of ideas now. Any pointers on how to fix it would be much appreciated.

If you can get a cheap PS2 mouse + keyboard to prevent driver issues, and re install the razer drivers
Thanks

Hmm, go into the BIOS and see if support for Legacy USB devices is enabled? If it isnt, try it, if it is, turn it off.

I used to have the same issue with my Drobo.

Thought you might be on to something there, but no joy.

Mouse works fine on the laptop.

Going to try and install the drivers via keyboard now and see if that makes any different.

Installed drivers - Computer boots fine without mouse plugged in, functions fine if i plug the mouse in while in Windows :uhoh:

Toggling between Legacy/OS support for USB in the BIOS does nothing to affect it.

That mouse has onboard memory. Make sure booting from USB is not in your boot order before hard disk.

Same issue with the Steelseries XAI mouse... they have suggested I send it back for RMA but I've not had any assurance that their new models will fix the problem. It's almost definitely something to do with the onboard memory as Woden said, and the BIOS is getting confused, thinking it's an HDD or something. My XAI occasionally stops my PC from booting at all and can kill all the other USB ports in the machine while attached.

Amazing that probably the most basic part of a PC, the mouse, can cause such massive issues.....

Hope you get it sorted.
