Can someone who has one of these tell me how the wheel works in practice when used as a 3rd mouse button for double clicking. I use a Cad program which involves a lot of double clicking of the wheel button. I curently use an intellimouse 2, when i have tried newer mice, i have yet to find one which has a wheel that can be double clicked like a button, most are way to hard to double click. I am used to the wheel click being similar in pressure to the normal left/right mouse buttons.

I know my deathadder has a very loose middle button compared to my mx518. It has the lowest resistance of any other mouse I have used.

Thanks for the replies. I have a cordless intelli explorer with a tilt wheel and i just cant get on with it for work.
Keep the sugestions coming :)

On my Logitech VX Nano and MX Revolution, there are buttons just behind the scroll wheel which are designed to be used as "zoom" buttons, since that feature is pretty much useless, I just mapped them to be my middle click button. Easy to double click.

Although the Nano isn't a great mouse for constant use (too small for me), and some people dislike the ergonomics of the Revolution (I love it, personally), so it depends whether you like the mice themselves or not. Also, both are wireless and have fairly low DPI, so they may not be the best mice for gaming, if you do that.

Edit: Just had a look and the MX518 and G5 also have these buttons, so if you need a mouse for gaming too, there you go.

Open the mouse and loosen the spring/arm of the wheel, It's not hard.
If it can't be loosened enough then it's the micro switch. In which case you'd be better off looking for another mouse.
Logitech MX518 is cheap and will do the job.

Mamba feels fine double-clicking the scroll-wheel, actually takes a little less pressure to click than the other buttons.

Agree, most mouses I've used have way too hard scroll wheel click and trying to depress it often ends up to rolling it. Again if there's also tilt then tilting it is equally probable.
MX518 has at least passable click (lacks tilt) but Roccat Kone has very good balance of forces required for depressing, rolling and tilting of wheel so that depressing it is possible with high probablity but without rolling/tilting causing depressing it.
