Hi all,

After the latest PC build I cant get any sound from this USB headset. I have updated the latest driver & firmware and they just wont output any sound.

When I plug them in they light up as normal and you can change the functions on the unit, when you plug/unplug them you can hear a crackle but thats it. Very confused as to why these have stopped working now. I dont have another PC to test them on.

Hey Amidar, yes mate its saying its working fine. You plug it in and Win7 finds/shows Razer Megeladon, you unplug it and it goes away like it should! Its baffled me.

My X-Fi card and speakers are working without issue.

I would imagine being USB, they should become the default playback device once plugged in. If you right click on the headset in the sound playback properties and select test, can you hear the test sound?

Once the USB headset it plugged in it IS the default playback device. No I cant hear the test tone, I get a popup box saying Error! failed to play test tone. :(

I have even tried reinstalling the 2.12 Firmware to no avail. :( WTH has my headset stopped working? I just dont understand it... unless the wife dropped and broken them and not told me! ;)

Well it's likely not a problem with the headset. If it were the test tone would be played and Windows would be none the wiser whether or you heard it or not.

Have you changed Windows version since your last build? If you have, could be a driver incompatibility problem.

I wonder if it some problem with USB 3.0. I'm guessing your old board used 2.0. Maybe there is some problem with the Megalodon's and USB 3.0.

There may be an issue with USB 3 but I have the headset plugged into one of the USB 2 ports... infact I have tried 4 different USB 2 ports. I even plugged it back into the same port on the top of my case that was used before. Not going to be happy if I cant use these anymore as they cost me £120.

Found some people with similar problem on a different site. Some guy found using a different port worked. You have tried that already though. Another guy said this: "I had similar problem, I bought additional USB PCI Card and it works now. The problem was with too low bandwidth (Megalodon uses over 70% in my system). You can also try buying self-powered USB hub."

I don't know how likely it is that one motherboard will supply more bandwidth to the main USB ports than another. Might be worth a shot if you have a powered USB hub you can try. If that worked for someone, then it's a possibility.

Hey Marsman, that was really kind of you to go looking elsewhere. I also went looking online but didnt read the thread about not enough power to the USB ports. I think I may have a powered USB hub. Thanks again. :)

Well I hope it solves the problem. Maybe it won't, but anything is worth a try. :)

If it doesn't, then a conflict is another possibility. I've seen that mentioned. However, I don't know if there is a work around, should it be some kind of conflict.

I DID have a USB hub... did being the important word here. I found my hub and what I thought was the PSU for it. Well the PSU was plugged in and the USB hub went pop...BUGGER!!!

I may bring my headset in to work to test.

I also have a conflict in device manager that may be the guilty culprit. It seems to be pointing towards driver software. I will have another look when I get home.

Right... I no longer have the conflict in device manager but I still have no sound from the headset. It has come to light that the bloody drivers for my Xbox wireless controller may be the cause of my headset not working.

Not had a chance to bring them into work to test yet.

Brought the headset into work and it works fine so im guessing its a problem with the new PC...great! a pair of £130 headphones that are sat here useless....Not very happy I cant tell you. Think I will sell them.

I have since purchased a Sound Blaster Tactic3D Sigma headset and this works fine.
