not sure about that specific kit, or what it is going into, but a cheaper option would be to get a nice brushed esc like hobbywing 1060

that has the choice to use older nimh batts and lipos, i use them on 2s lipos on a lot of my tamiya stuff like the lunch box and they work very well with brushed motors, the brushed motors are very cheap as well.
the tamiya stock silver can is around 27 turns, the higher the turns you go the higher the torque and less speed.
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/tamiya-torque-tuned-motor-381429 i think the torque tuned ones are around 25 turns plus lipos give a good speed boost and you get the full performance out the motor untill the battery is about to get low which is why you need a lipo specific esc which cuts the power down when the battery hits a certain low voltage or the battery will be knackered.
im using this motor
https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/etronix-sport-tuned-modified-brushed-motor-21t-369086 with one of they 1060 esc's in a gold tub rc10 re release and it goes well.
what specific tamiya cars have you got? just watch the old gear boxes
tamiya also re release a ton of old cars etc things like this
