Just wondering if any other RC Plane users here... after a year or so flying just heli's just ordered a Electric Ducted Fan model from the states.

So much choice on these planes and in end bought a Rafale scale model (ok, it's gonna be tough flying a french jet lol, but they one of the best to fly apparently)

Top speed is quite low on these, maybe 60-70mph in a straight line.. and I know landing is gonna be tough :)

Vid of it flying on this page... http://www.hobby-lobby.com/rafale.htm

Gone with the ARF one and using my own radio gear.. bought a Spektrum DSM2 RX so no glitches.

Just can't wait to give it some beans :)

Should fly similar to this, though hopefully won't turn me into a ahole like this pilot ;)..

Gah I dunno i think I still prefer IC to electric. I've not been upto my flying field in quite a few months now even though my exams have been over for a while lol. It does look like quite a fun plane to fly but like you said it could be pretty tricky to land. That's one of the reasons I prefer IC, when you're landing them they tend to handle slightly better because they've used up most of their fuel.

However I don't think I could ever have as much fun flyin IC than I do flying my shock flyer :) Really kept me on my toes that one. In fact I've been out of the general flying loop for a while, have the prices of 2.4Ghz radios come down much now compared to what they were like at the start of this year? (the last time I looked)

From what I've seen IC is slowly being replaced as lipos getting so good. But it must be a real buzz flying IC with all the noise and fumes hmhmhmh.

2.4GHz is really coming down, picked up a Spektrum DX6i and RX for heli for £100 and it's a lovely bit of kit for the money (10 model memory).. certainly all I need.

What planes you have ?, I almost bought a shock flyer instead (was a Nexus 3D), and on thinking I think would have been a better buy as the way they move about is just sublime.

Yeah you can get a Spektrum 2.4Mhz DX6i with full range reciever for £85. That's what I use an i'm very happy with it.

I've been into flying models for a few months now - already got 7 planes! My most recent additions I picked up at the British National Championships on sunday, a 3D plane and a bargain of an EPP wing with lipo / esc and brushless inrunner - £15!!

Have you flown a plane yet or are you just going to get stuck in?

15 quid!!!!! man..... what other stuff you got ?

I've kinda jumped in at deep end though have plenty of hours on sim, hoping average heli skills will prevent to many big crashes, though I have bought plenty of epoxy as I know will need it :D

What aircraft/helis does everyone else have on here?

Nice planes...

I have the EDF Foamy Rafale on way,

BeltCP Heli - Fully upgraded with lots of bling for park flying (some of the lipos from this should go in Rafale hopefully). The head speed in Idle-up is crazy.

Walkera 4#3 for indoors, but it has full carbon frame on it so it's a new heli really (can hands off for at least 5-10 seconds it's so stable)

Gonna check out some of these slow stick / foam wings posted in thread, might be a better start into planes.

That looks really nice Flukester, perhaps one day i'll get back into building.. how much time is needed to build it? I take it the flying wing type designs need less work?

Sry missed your quest, must pay more attention ;)... the Rafale comes pretty much RTF, just gotta glue on wings and hook up elevons (it only needs 3 servos because of the aileron / elevator mix design on delta wings I assume)

Your plane looks great btw, I'm aleady scared about maiden flight :)

I have been flying for about 6 months now and am getting on pretty well. So far I have a Mustang, Cessna 182, T-28 Trojan, and a Edge 540 3D plane.

The Edge is my favorite, it has stupid amounts of power and is perfect for 3D flight.

Will probably post pictures of the others tomorrow.

That looks awesome man!!, yeah post up some more piccys...

well got all the gear I ordered..

first was the epp foam shock flyer, what a PITA to build... horrible job. the hinges for the elevators etc had to be made by using uhu por glue, just a nightmare. whole job to build took about 5hrs

got the thing flying but it's so sensitive and in a small space outside my indust unit I just crash all the time... though managed to hover a few times on vertical. I think it will be fine once I get it in more space but the foam has so many cracks already (though have patched with epoxy). I think I have servos throwing too far, so will have to calm it down abit or maybe use expo on tx.

the rafale arrived today and first impressions are how well crafted it is... it's a work of art. assembly was just so easy, glue on wings and tail, landing gear, then hook up electronics...love the way all the electronics are housed under the canopy.

still got some finishing to do before I maiden fly her, but already taxi'd about, it really shifts in a straight line and the fan unit kicks out a lot of thrust.

so much fun messing with planes, cant beat the feeling of being a total noob, real learning curve, much the same as heli's were a year back.

rebuilt the shock flyer today without using the crappy uhu hinge method on control surfaces, discovered something called 'hinge tape' ...well, think it's just elastic / strong 3M tape but wow, what a difference.

now why didn't the makers of the shock flyer suggest using it :(, pretty much wrecked the plane using their method and trashed two of the servos. grrrr
