Hi guys,

One RCD controlling the downstairs plugs MCB, oven MCB, and upstairs lights MCB has tripped. I've turned off all switches downstairs and all lights (including extractor fans) upstairs. Tried to flip it back on but it seems stuck. I don't want to force it in case I break the stupid thing.

The individual MCBs all stayed in the on position so I don't understand.

Any ideas?

Probably a faulty RCD, you should not need to use any adverse force to reset.

I need to change a MCB a few months back due to a fault.

Push it a bit harder.

I'm going to pretend that it got easier to switch after I turned off and on the big red switch but it seems to have worked :D

I genuinely pushed the thing hard the first few times. The fuse unit was moving I pushed it that hard. I even compared the force needed by turning the working one on and off. Maybe flipping the mains power reset it or something?

The earth fault indicator was yellow on the RCD and that's now gone. Not sure what caused it but think it's worth getting the builders to come and check? No new appliances and was onl watching TV / washing machine was on.

While trying to fix I did switch everything on the circuit off at the individual switches, including all appliances, oven, etc.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
In all seriousness you can get RCDs with this feature, push it further down and back up to reset it.
This , with some rcds when they trip themselves they then need to be pushed all the way down before it can be pushed back up to reset
