RD600 chipset

Well, OcUK is stocking the new DFi RD600 mobo. 's taken a long time for RD600 to launch, and Anandtech were pretty impressed, but not ecstatic.

With ATI releasing R600 GFX cards in February, is there any point in considering the RD600 board over an Intel 965/975 chipset board? Will the chipset be designed to work best with the R600, like the Linkboost feature on the nVidia 680 boards that enables when used with an nVidia card? Does the RD600 have a future as a chipset, or is DFI's mobo going to be a one-hit-wonder?

Thoughts?

Interesting thoughts there, i suppose time will tell ect , i read into the anandtech test pretty much the same as yourself tbh although they did get 500 Mhz bus speed, the strange thing is that it will only do crossfire @ 2 x 8 which was probably the glitch with the rd580 chipset thinking about it , as that was 2 x 16 unless i am mistaken .

Angry Games, Moderator at the dfi forums has had a board for a while. He had a play with it and has uninstalled it, he prefers the dfi 975x board which OCuk do for £100, as he says the 975 board does pretty much the same as the RD600 board and is a lot cheaper and maturer.

I don't think the RD600 chipset brings anything new to the table that the 965/975 or nvidia680i chipsets can already do. If AMD/ATI had of got the chipsets out earlier then things may have been different, but they are probably 3mths+ too late. Why switch from 965/975 to RD600 for no performance or little improvement. Just buying a mobo for the sake of it (but I have done this myself in the past  )

Just my 2p

And it looks like DFI are dead anyway - seeing as how they are reported to be sacking all the support staff and the DFI-Street Forum has gone off-air.

Want one of these boards, but the lack of FSB really is a sticking point. For people running X6800's/EE CPU's it's not a problem. For those of us running 6600's or lower 511 FSB just isnt enough. It's a real shame, the board looks to clock ram really nicely - certainly better than the 965's we're stuck with at the mo.
Shame really, the boards offering what the "budget" enthusiast wants/needs are lacking somewhat in certain areas. Those people with the ability to afford multi unlocked CPU's or higher default multi CPU's get the pick of the best components.
If the 680i/RD600 could pull 550+ FSB they'd appeal MUCH more towards the lower end market. People wanting to run SLI/Xfire coupled with a lower end CPU. Spose these chipsets are aimed at those who CAN afford "decent" kit.

Sorry for OT...

DFI more than anyone need good tech support for their boards. For those who KNOW how to set them up and use them its not as much of a problem. For the less experienced users out there buying the boards because they;re the dogs danglies the support is vital. Canning the support might loose DFI the newer enthusiasts who probably outnumber the experienced ones at the moment. Seems bad business sense?

Bit of a shame, though to be honest, DFI haven't had a decent board since the NF4 days, everything since has been no better than the competition and it looks like their RD600 board isn't going to do anything significantly different than the 975x chipset.

Seems strange, but if you're looking for the best DFI 775 board, go for the 975x Infinity board, since the recent BIOS update it now performs like the rest, but has price in it's favour.

DFI bord is rubish. Stick with the latters, fact now avoid DFI.

It'll run both ATI or Nivida in CF and sli aprantly as it has an open memory controler.

No one makes simple bords anymore. Thats what conroe needs, simple bords, built properly and correctly.

BX2 is the only bord to do it all in one hit

im curious about the Badaxe 2. Does the extra FSB 1333 and also does 4mb as oppose to 2mb cache make much difference?

Bad2 is better for quad core apparently. abit aw9d apparently has a 1333fsb bios now, some had slight gains in overclocking thanks to the looser memory timing

Rd600 advances pci-e timing from 100mhz to 125mhz which cant be bad. I think it does crossfire very well but overall its not the best at everything. Could still be a great board but only if someone actually figures out all those options and which combo works.
I sold my last setup in the summer and generally was waiting for rd600 because of the free fsb/memory ratio but 680i has that too and so now Ive gone for the nicely priced budget option of 650i. I dont need crossfire anyway and rd600 was too much to justify plus omg the endless wait

Just a pity Dfi will never bring out a 650i board, I bet they still could have done it best of all. They were the world champions on socket A, I got 250mhz on my old dfi infinity just 16mhz short of conroes now standard

Have to agree, although the Infinity board only has 4 SATA ports :(

No, it & the DFI-street thread have vanished into thin air.
Apparently DFI in the USA have fired Jackie (the guy responsible for the LANParty concept) & are trying to cut back on support staff.

I don't really care about DFI, never really liked em. As for R600.. Doubt it's that different from 975X performance wise.. same bandwith etc, just an ATI stamp, oh and the added satisfaction that you can buy an Intel board and AMD will pick up some royalties for it :D

DFI boards arn't built to last, They are designed for overclocking and benchmarking, That's it.

My DFI lanparty expert was the best board I have EVER owned, far more options to my current p5wdh. I found it rock solid stable and it is still going strong, plus custom pc awarded it the best 939 board award!!!
