Hi guys,

I am trying to RDC into a remote machine but it won't let me.

I enter the IP address and the remote computers logon box comes up. I enter the username and the password but it says 'The system could not log you on, blah blah blah, check the username and password are correct and retry'.

The thing is, the username and password ARE correct - I've even got the user at the other end to verify they are correct by locking and then unlocking the workstation.

So what gives?

Cheers guys. Both machines are XP.

Note, I *can* login as administrator without problems but this will obviously end the users session which is not something I wish to do. I want to logon as the current user.

If the user has a limited account and not an admin account (CPL > User accounts) it might not let you in

I can't remember but the user SHOULD have an admin account, as it's the only user setup on the machine aside from the dedicated admin account.

Sounds obvious but its caught me out a few times, check CAPS LOCK is not on.
Also, do you have to have 'log on remotely' access rights granted in the local policy on that machine?

Access will have been granted anyway if it can be logged onto from Admin account!

Are you leaving the domain blank in RDC options page (first tab) ?

If it is blank you "may" need to put the domain in that the machine is connected to as the network might be blocking logon otherwise perhaps ?

It's not a password issue - I guarantee thats all correct. And as I said - I can login using admin :( The machine is not connected to a domain.
