I'm trying to set it up so I can rdp to my PC over the internet but it's not working.

I've got a Netgear DG834PN and it has the option for using dyndns (I have a dynamic ip). I've created an account and set it up on the router.

When I browse to the dyndns hostname I've created it brings up the router setup page and asks me to log in (this is not ideal but it atleast shows it's finding my router)

I have 4 pcs on the network and I want to get to the one that is 192.168.9.9 (I've set it as a reserved ip on the network and the routers IP is 192.168.9.1) but I don't know how to do it.

When I try to connect to the RDP it just says it can't find the PC.

In the rdp connection I'm typing:

blahblah.gotdns.com

Should I be typing something else to MAKE it look for the specific pc behind the router?

Cheers,

G

Have you forwarded the port for RDP, and are you trying it from inside the network?

I have forwarded the ports but I can't find a virtual network option in my router. All I've done is added the port 3389 to a rule in the firewall on the router.

Strangely it is working now over the network. But not over Hsdpa.

NICE ONE!!! :D Thanks mate!

Got it working now :D

The guide I was using didn't tell me to do UDP aswell as TCP, it works fine now! I've just logged in to my PC from my phone to start my downloads :D

Now all I need to know is if there is any way I can turn my PC on remotely? I know that is a long shot but it would be awesome!

Not sure if there's custom firmware available for that router that supports sending wake on LAN packets. That would be your best bet, have a search around for that model.

I got that and it works :D

I can now quite happily turn my computer on and off from anywhere :)

BUT, the way I am doing it now, I have to log into the web interface of my router via my mobile phone and it is near enough impossible to see what you are doing.

Would it be possible to telnet into the router and send the wake on lan command that way?

I got it to work better now by putting "the router's address/wol.htm"

That way I can see the page properly on my phone :D

Now I can use my phone to completely control my pc wether it is switched on or off :)

It does mean you have to know your mac address by heart, but I remember things like that (like all the numbers on my credit cards lol) for some reason :)
