re 8gb ocuk value ram

ok all bit the bullet and decided to get 8 gb ram, a few people said i would notice a difference and that windows would use 4gb ram and i would have the other 4 spare for games etc, windows is only using 1.8 mb and when i play supcom ram usage still dosent go above 2.5, is there a setting i have to change to get it to use more ram or is that it all i can do, any help would be appreciated
 
i wasnt expecting miracles but i thought it might just a bit more than it is, i think i read some where about diasabling page filing and virtual ram would make it use more and run a bit better, will have to try and find them to disable.
 
Sup com: 81x81 map, 8 players, 1000 unit limit.

Be sure your CPU is up to the task too :D

I frequently play some epically huge games lasting for several hours, and the ram usage has gone up to 4gb frequently.
 
This poxy forum wouldn't let me post my previous reply so lets try again. For some stupid reason if I type U S E as one word it crashes.

SupCom won't us e more than 2.5Gb of RAM because its a 32bit application. In fact it's only really using 2Gb of RAM as Windows only assigns that much too 32bit apps.

This won't change until games go to 64bit so if you bought your memory for games, for now you won't gain much.

Oen thing I love about 8gb is I can leave memory intensive apps open and when I play games, quitting out of the game is instant. With 4gb under this scenario, I still had some disk thrashing.
 
i have 4gb and leave memory intensive apps such as solidworks, google sketchup, photoshop etc... open all the time and can alt-tab from games without a hitch.
