Hi guys,
can u help me out here i have this in my machine OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK) which is 800MHz
DDR2 - CL 5-5-5-18

But in cpu-z id it says in MAX bandwidth PC2-6400 (400Mhz).

slot 1
then 2 colums one saying 333Mhz 4-5-5-15 an one saying 400Mhz 5-6-6-18

and exactly the the same for slot 3 slots 2&4 are MT

I can't get my head round this can someone explain what is what please

OH and the settings are all auto for the ram in bios

Thaks Andy

if im correct in what your saying, you have 3 tables in cpu-z which show different speeds and timings for your ram.

this is normal as its able to run at 3 different settings according to the SPD.

heres mine, http://www.spookywillow.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/IMAGES/cpu-z.jpg the ram is running at 500mhz which can be seen in the memory tab and the different SPD settings can be seen in the SPD tab.

as for your timings, if its rated for 5-5-5-18 you may want to go into bios and just set the 2 that are wrong if your going to leave it and not OC

think so i'll upload a pic, (CAN't remember how to :D ) i have been in bios an altered settings to read 5-5-5-18 now
but still can't understand what cpuz is reporting :D

Also i can't understand the fact that my ram is 800Mhz but cpuid says it is running at 400Mhz, and where u have 3 sections on spd i only have 2 and why does it say DRAM frequency 400 Mhz instead of 800 Mhz

its 400 x2 = 800mhz

some ram stick have 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 speeds that they can run at... but your memory is 800mhz which means 400 x2..

the easiest way to explain it is by going back to athlon XP days.

you had 100/133/166/200 fsb speeds, ram ran at 1-1 ratio so if you had some pc3200 400mhz ram (double data rate so its 200mhz x 2 = 400mhz) and you had a 200fsb processor (athlon 3200xp) then the ram would run at the 400mhz using the 400mhz SPD profile.

now if you put in a 166 fsb cpu (athlon 2800xp) the ram would run at 333mhz using the 333mhz SPD profile. and so on for as many SPD profiles your ram has.

your ram has 2 SPD profiles, 1 for 400mhz and 1 for 333mhz.

So my ram isn't total crap then :D ? as i was told it was...

U would think that someone who has 20 odd years doing computers would have a better understanding of RAM :o

anyway just for an opinion this is my set up :-

Intel E6850 cpu

4gb of this ram

on a Asus Black Pearl Special Edition P5K Premium/WiFi-AP
